How to Blow Up the Oil Pipeline - A Strong Debate on Activism Strategies.
My recent research has been featured in Seznam, Medium.cz.
Anisin does not fully agree with the idea that a looming climate emergency necessitates non-institutional action. However, he finds A. Malm's argument valuable because it aligns with some of his own findings from quantitative analyses of historical revolutions and the role of unarmed violence. My research has found that unarmed forms of violence have historically been more effective than commonly recognized. Likewise, many "nonviolent" movements actually have included significant elements of violence. This challenges the conventional binary view and dichotomization of violent versus nonviolent movements and leads scholars to rethink the role of unarmed violence that occurs in movements which are typically considered nonviolent. The debate over sabotage within the climate movement is a robust example of the larger discussions surrounding the use of violence in political activism.
