Nestled in the Rhön Mountains in the northernmost area of the Bavarian province of Germany, Bad Brückenau is a delightful historical resort. Spa facilities are top notch - making this one of the more underrated places for a short stay or break.
The area has some history to it. Wells were discovered here as early as the 12th century. In the early 19th century after the Napoleanic wars, this was formally acquired into the Bavarian kingdom - subsequently becoming a favorite spa of Ludwig I, King of Bavaria. By 1848, this area was leased to private entrepreneurs which apparently has turned out quite well as it really features among the better gardens one can come across in Europe.
